Also suitable
for mountain bikes. The route follows farm tracks almost entirely. A relaxing

of footpaths higher up. (see map)

After leaving
farm tracks 1 and 2 follow a path that crosses several streams and runs
under calcareous rocks until it reaches the Tsan refuge. From there descend
to the small lake of the same name and follow a stretch of Alta Via No
1 as far as Fenêtre de Tsan, a broad window looking out on the valley
of St Barthélemy, opposite Becca di Luseney. (see map)
2 hrs 30' - Difference in height m. 956 - Challenging
Follow signposts for No 1, leaving the track immediately after the ruins
of the Ospice de Chavacour. Walk for a long stretch alongside the filled-in
canal of Verrayes as far as Alpe Chavacour. From there the path becomes
steep and skirts Alpe Grand-Draye`res, its vaulted shape recognisable
from a distance. Carry on past the Rivolta refuge, a few metres from Col
de Fort (2,908m). The final section of the route is very challenging. (see map)

From
the hamlet of Triatel, which together with Etirol comprises Petit-Monde,
the first section follows the asphalt municipal road; Etirol can , however,
be reached by car. Between the two villages is a typical mill, which was
in operation until a few years ago. After leaving the road follow a path
that is almost entirely within a wood and pass in front of Alpe Comianaz
until you reach Gilliarey. A part of the route follows the Great Balcony
walk that circles the Valtournenche, No 107. At Gilliarey the view of
the valley and Matterhorn is memorable.

From the centre of Torgnon follow the old mule path that links the hamlets
of Chatrian and Septumian until you reach the bottom of the ski lift at
Chantorné. With the chapel on your right, follow the charming path
that, immediately after a hut, enters the wood and then ascends to Becca
d’Aver, from where the view is magnificent. (see map)

1 ora 30' - Difference in height m 152 - Easy
This walk starts from the centre of Torgnon and continues
to the hamlet of Ronc-Dessous and the almost flat meadows of Maisonnet.
From there climb into the pine forest to Colle di Saint-Pantaléon.
If you wish, you can continue – for the most part in a wood –
as far as the Sanctuary of Saint-Évence, a panoramic point above
the valley. (see map)

40' - Easy - also by mountain bike
This is a relaxing, pleasant walk. From the chapel of Saint-Pantaléon,
the path is almost entirely on the level. Walk along a ridge covered with
spruce, beech and pine that gives panoramic glimpses of the Valtournenche
and Matterhorn on one side and, on the other, the Aosta valley and river
Dora. You arrive at a plateau on which rises the chapel of Saint-Évence,
a splendid place from which to admire near and faraway peaks.
30' - Easy - also by mountain bike
As well as going from Plan Prorion, following the cross-country ski
run through the wood, this hill can also be approached from Col Saint-Pantaléon
by proceeding along the forest path that starts from the side of the
road.

1 hrs 30' from Plan Prorion
Reach the Chantorné hollow.
From the edge of the wood, above the hollow, walk along the path that
goes through a wood to Fenêtre, a narrow pass looking down on the
valley of Saint-Barthélemy
This is a lovely walk in every
season in that it winds along a made-up road. The route passes by Djeun
where there is a television relay station – a panoramic point above
the Marmore river and looking up at Punta Tsan. Continue to Ponty where,
at the foot of a steep wall of rock, rises a chapel much loved by the people
of Torgnon. It’s a poetic place and is situated along the road towards
Petit-Monde. These two hamlets, with their stone and wood houses and old
mill, preserve an old-world charm and are something of a little world of
their own.
3 hrs 30' from Châté
From the village of
Châté climb up the mule track taking you to Châtelard.
The route continues as far as the little bridge of Lodetor. From there
the path rises across to the left and then for a while picks up the farm
road again, leaving it 300m after the Château pasture. Now the path
climbs quite steeply past the Crotte de Loup pasture and after an hour
reaches the Tsan refuge, to be found on the bank of the lake of the same
name in sight of the Tsan summit.
30' from Châté
By means of a farm track you arrive at
the foot of a typically rocky summit that dominates the hamlet of Châté.
In order to enjoy the view, climb up to the top either from the right,
using the little path partly cut into the rock and purpose-built for the
erection of two statues, or from the left, passing by the chapel of San
Grato and then along a steep grassy slope.
